Peeking Through the Window

Surprise! The new Bungee-Man update is runing a little late. I got a little sidetracked working on something else and ended up getting too tired to finish the new page. It’ll be finished later tonight after I get home from work. I’m thinking Mondays are going to be the better Bungee-Man update day.

If you’d like to get a hint as to what I was working on that was so important that it delayed Bungee-Man, I suggest you get acquainted with an old friend who will soon no longer confined entirely to an archived prison. If you don’t know who our friend is I suggest you come familiar with him as it’ll make Bungee-Man much more enjoyable.

Bungee-Man is live!

I was able to fix some web side problems and also took the opportunity to make a couple of tweaks to the page. This is exciting for me because this is really the first thing I’ve completed with my tablet that’s been somewhat worth sharing. Rather than break down and just draw it in pencil, I forced myself to do everything digitally. I obviously still need a lot more practice with digital illustration as I’m not quite where I am with traditional media, but that’s the point of this. Gotta start somewhere, right?

The proposed update schedule for the time being is a new page every Sunday. Hopefully once Mike and I start getting into a routine we’ll be able produce updates more frequently, but for now let’s not push it, k? We’re fragile when it comes to regular updates.

Well, now is when I should be announcing the first couple pages of Bungee-Man are up but there appears to be a problem with the page this morning. Lame! Unfortunately I won’t be able to fix it until later tonight. You know what they say, it wouldn’t be a BWISH project if it weren’t delayed.

Check back later tonight! Or better yet, follow our RSS Feed or my Twitter to always know when thing happen.

The History of Bungee-Man: Part 1

Bungee-Man was a comic I started in the 6th grade. It was a silly comic with stick figures on graph paper, which made drawing the ‘boxes’ quite easy. I had created dozens of these comics and compiled them into a single blue folder. Unfortunately that folder has since been lost. It disappeared sometime late in highschool and it’s location still haunts me to this day.

Bungee-Man was a simple story of a man who tripped on his cat one day and fell out of a window. He fell in a truck of toxic waste and developed the ability to stretch his limbs. Poor and with no creativity whatsover, he borrowed a towel from the Ramada Inn for a cape, some cardboard for a chest emblem, and set off on whacky adventures against some painfully ”original” villains. Some of these villains included his arch nemesis, Bum Man, who after a freak accident couldn’t wear pants (he wore skirts) and had the ability to control… trash cans. There was also Gadget Master, a scientist with a robot claw; Fatboy, who was the size of a small city; Merman, a confused seafarring prince; Fire Lord and Cyclone, two aliens who… God, I don’t even know. There was plenty more but you get the idea of how bad they were. There was even an epic full colored tale of an adventure combining elements that closely resembled Super Mario World and Secret of Mana.

Fast forward 13 years and Mike liked the concept of Bungee-Man so much he decided to adapt it into something… well, decent. This is the story we will be starting on Sunday.

This weekend I will share some very old Bungee-Man work. I may have lost most of the original comics but there’s still a few things that managed to survive the years. It will be interesting to compare this old stuff with the upcoming new stuff.

BWISH Studios v10

Welcome to the new BWISH Studios!

I decided to redesign the site for a few reasons. The first being I stopped caring for the previous redesign (It was so dark!). The second, I know a lot more about web design now than I did a year ago, so I wanted to apply some of the knowledge I’ve gained since then to make the site function a lot better and easier to update.

It would seem that I’ve updated BWISH’s design once a year since it began, making this BWISH Version 10. You know what that means? BWISH Studios is almost 10 years old. More specifically, BWISH’s 10th anniversary begins in June. Frankly, I can’t believe it. It makes me feel both old and somewhat guilty. I feel old because I started this site in 1999 (Starting as tabris.sfss.org, then zap.to/bwish, then bwish.myrmid.com and finally onto bwish.com). I feel guilty because BWISH hasn’t made anything substantial since 2006, and even then it was a unfinished project in the form of the film Indiana Justin and the Porcelain Throne. We did come out with 2weeker last year but it died fairly quickly as we weren’t exactly sure what to do with.

So what this all means is BWISH hasn’t completed anything since 2005’s Death Fight 2: Final Discharge and it makes me feel terrible! What have we been doing this whole time? The easy excuse is life got in the way. I graduated college and got married and Mike is in graduate school and currently engaged.

The time for excuses and being “lazy” is over. Mike and I both feel it’s the time to get creative again and start pumping out content once again.

So what can we expect from the new BWISH Studios? Now that BWISH is no longer making films I’ve decided I want to focus on comics. We had originally planned to start off with a short story comic called The Rain Thief but Mike’s idea was a bit too ambitious for us to start off with. We kept dabbling in it and putting it off until we realized we weren’t ready to tell that story yet.

The story we are ready to tell is Bungee-Man and we will begin telling it on May 3rd, starting with a weekly update schedule. Bungee-Man is a superhero I created in 1996 when I was in the 6th grade. Mike grew fascinated by the character and persuaded me to revive him for prime time BWISH.

Over the next week I will be sharing the history of Bungee-Man’s 13 year journey from terrible graph paper comics to the masterpiece we hope it becomes.

Bungee-Man is a project that we expect to last several years. I plan to do a few chapters before taking brief breaks to work on separate, and much shorter, comics (think 20-30 page short story type things).

Once Bungee-Man gets into a groove, Mike and I will be retooling 2weeker into something much more useful.

In an effort to keep with our forward vision I haven’t bothered to bring over the old BWISH news archives into this new site. I’ll be making a few more changes, mostly style related over the week as I get everything sorted out and fix any bugs I run across.

So with that… Welcome to the new BWISH! We’ll begin The History of Bungee-Man on Wednesday. See you then!
